London Stories chronicles the lives of several families with different ethnic backgrounds and explores how they use the common aspects of their humanity to overcome their disparate problems. In the film the characters tell their stories to each other using a flash-back format which writer/director Ryan Claffey describes as being “like Chinese whispers”. The movie's tag line is “Minority is a word. We define its meaning” and that is exactly what the film sets out to do. According to Claffey 'minority' means 'a few' and he believes that people who can accept change and can accept people from different cultures unconditionally are, themselves, a minority group. His hope is that the film will persuade people to think differently after watching it.
Set in London the film is packed with typical every-day iconography making it instantly recognisable to the man in the street. At the same time the viewer will almost certainly recognise and identify with the concept of minority as it applies to them. All of us are members of one minority group or another so the film is likely to appeal the a very wide audience indeed.
